If you look at the band calendar, it’s hard to find a time this week where the students DON’T have band! You should all make sure you have the latest copy of the band calendar because dates/times may have changed since the last time you looked. There are new printable calendars there today as well.
We have practice today, TOMORROW and Thursday this week. This is the only Wednesday practice (except for MS Band Night practice) so it is critical that everyone is accounted for prior to the practices. The Honor Guard students need to attend practice on Thursday, because we have a home game this week.
On Thursday evening, we have a WPXI Game of the Week pep rally performance at King’s Restaurant near the Greensburg Home Depot beginning at 6:15 and lasting just a short while. After practice, students need to be at Kings by 6:00 PM, along with their equipment. We will not have an equipment truck or buses so students and parents need to make arrangements. The school will be open for equipment drop-off after the event. Students need to wear their BROWN GS BAND T-SHIRTS to the pep rally. This performance is for woodwinds, brass, drumline (BATTERY), colorguard, dance team and majorettes only. No pit, honor guard or managers are required to attend.
Friday evening’s game is at home, and that means that the GS band will parade from the MS to Offutt Field prior to our pregame performance. Even though we march from the MS, everyone still needs to report to the HS at report time (5:15 PM). We will bus to the MS and go from there. You are welcome to watch our parade around 6:50 – good places to stand include the corner of Main and Pittsburgh Streets, in front of the YMCA and the corner of Pittsburgh St. and Talbot Ave.
If you are planning to pick up your son or daughter after the game from Offutt Field, please make sure you turn in a transportation form to Mrs. West no later than Thursday at 5 PM. We do not take them the day of a performance – no exceptions. Parents who have turned in transportation forms can pick up their child beside the student section on the large concession stand side of the field 15 minutes after the end of the game.
Saturday’s band festival is at Hempfield HS at 7 PM, but students need to report to the HS at 2 PM for rehearsal. We will practice from 2-4 and eat dinner at 4 PM. Please make dinner arrangements for this time (not earlier). If you are chaperoning, you can report at 5:00. If you have never been to a band festival, I highly encourage you to come to the Hempfield festival to see your son or daughter perform. It’s a totally different experience from a football game! Tickets are $7 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and $2 for students, and the gates open at 5:30 PM. Here is the lineup:
– National Anthem/Alma Mater
– Hempfield Middle Schools
– Mount Pleasant
– Greensburg-Salem
– Connellsville
– South Allegheny
Intermission
– St. Vincent College
– Seton Hill University
– Shippensburg University
Final Basket Prizes and 50/50 DRAWING
– Hempfield
Again, if you are picking up your son or daughter at Hempfield after the festival, please submit your transportation forms no later than Friday evening. The students can be picked up near our equipment truck in the parking lot beside the tennis courts on the side of HAHS.
It’s going to be a fun and busy week!
