Festival to be hosted at GSHS!

We have an exciting event coming to our High School in a few weeks! The Westmoreland County Music Educators Association will be having their Junior High County Band festival at GSHS on Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14. We will be hosting around 120 area musicians in grades 7-9, and Dr. Ted DiSanti — one of our own band parents and Seton Hill music professor — will be the guest conductor for the festival.

So where do WE come into the picture? First, several of our students have been selected to participate in the festival:

Robert Dietrich – Flute
Sydney Hirst – Flute
Colin Fullum – Clarinet
Cynthia Smith – Bass Clarinet
Gaige Tarris – Alto Sax
Kane Claflin – Trumpet
Kayla Fencil – Trumpet
Sierra Flanders – Trumpet
Josh Jones – Trumpet
Brandon Buchwalter – Tuba
Madison Kaufman – Percussion

Also, since we are the hosts of the festival, we are responsible for making sure the students and area band directors are comfortable throughout the festival. We will be feeding the students snacks and lunch, and we will need parent and student volunteers to help with this. We will also need to set all of the chairs, stands and percussion equipment the night before the festival, and we will need volunteers to help check students and directors in on Friday morning, as well as do other tasks throughout the festival.

In order to keep track of all of the volunteers we will need for the festival, we have a sign up list on Sign Up Genius.
